So Thankful

The time has come for color changing leaves, pumpkin flavored everything and for us to reflect on what we are thankful for! I found Jinger's Bella Vita line to have such pretty colors for fall. I have never made an easel card, and Jinger's premade cards make it so easy for newbies like me! It's already done for you, all you have to do is let your creativity flow. Hope you enjoy it!!

Here it is opened as an easel!!

Adults Love Party Favors Too!!

Hello everyone! Jillian from Paper a la Mode here!! Today is my day for the ever so wonderful Scrapbooking Queen's featured designer post. I have chosen to use her The Queen BEE stamp set. Which is available here!!!

So I'm hosting a Halloween get together. It will be mostly adults, especial after a few cups of the pumpkin spice rum I'm making. But I figured they'd want party favors too. I'd be a fool to assume they wouldn't want candy. So here are the favors! Enjoy!

Here's a close up of the stamp! The sentiment fit perfect!!!

I used some glass paint to make it look like blood is dripping down from the opening!

Trick almost Treat

It has begun. And it's very daunting. I haven't decorated for Halloween before. This is our first Halloween in our house and we are throwing a party this year. So naturally I want it decorated! I don't have much and I don't have much of a knack for Halloween decor. So, this is what I have so far, I need to do way more.

I am posting this so I can get some suggestions! I thought, who better to help me with this than the oh so talented readers I have?! ::bats my eyes:: So, what do you guys think? What should I do/change?

Thanks for the help!

Ok so here's my mantel. The branch art above it is there year long, so I just added those little bats. I finally got to use my Boogity Boo banner!! What should I add or remove?

I hung my Ghouls from these cutouts we have upstairs. It's in my foyer/great room so these guys can be seen right when you walk in!

But what should I do to the staircase?

Oh, and here's my latest wreath!! All it took was a grapevine wreath, a bag of rubber or plastic bugs (assorted, of course) hot glue and black spray paint!! My bugs were rubber and the spray paint wasn't sticking to it so I used some Mod Podge to seal the paint to the bugs.

A WHOLE lot of cuteness.

So after yesterday's serious post I decided something far more lighthearted was in order.

I'm blessed to have 5 wonderful siblings. I'm close with all of them and they are such incredible people. Up until I was 16, all of them were boys. Yes, 4 brothers. Then, my youngest sibling was born. A beautiful baby girl, named Dorothy. I had been waiting 16 years for a little sister and I finally got one. That was 11 years ago, and that little girl is following in her big sister's crafty footsteps! Not to mention the fact that her Mom is very talented when it comes to crafting as well!

Dorothy has fallen victim to the passion of card making and scrapbooking. That's all she asks for, for holidays and always raids my craft room when she comes over. She's a chip off the ole' block. So, yesterday, I received a card from her (handmade by her of course). I was confused as there was no special occasion happening at the time. Anyway, I found the card so freaking adorable that I had to share it with you guys.

Seriously though, how could that NOT make you smile from ear to ear? It made my whole week!

And here she is, the lady of the hour! This picture was taken a while ago but I thought it was important to know that even though she is so talented at making cards, she can also do some welding!!

This is me and her, a year ago.

I'm A Mother To An Angel

Nothing crafty today folks. ***Serious post alert!!***

I've been debating on whether I should post this or not (which is why it's so late). But today is a very important day of recognition for a lot of women (and men for that matter!). This day is very near and dear to my heart. And I encourage everyone to take a second to light candle, sometime in the month of October for this cause. If you have gone through pregnancy or infant loss or know someone who has, this is a great way to show that our angel babies aren't forgotten.

Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness day. Which is also observed the whole month of October. If you can, check out the October 15th website. It has great resources and information about understanding pregnancy and infant loss whether you've experienced it or not. Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this. I know of a lot of people, including me, who care a whole lot about this and the awareness alone is so important.

I lit two candles today. One for the angel babies all over the world, my friend's, my family's. And one for my angel.

Thanks again everyone! A MILLION times over!

Another Jinger Adams FD Day!!

Hi everyone!!
The time has come again for my Featured Designer day for Jinger Adams! I have been playing around with both of her super cute collections and I've been having so much stinkin' fun!!

One of the things that caught my eye most was this adorable "Love Over All" sentiment from the Gypsy Queen collection. I truly adore that sentiment. I think it's a ideal that everyone should adopt. The wold would be a much happier place if they did!

I love the simplicity of this card. It really shows off the sentiment. ^_^

Here's my card, I hope you enjoy it!

Featured Designer Day for the Queen!

Hey hey! It's my time again for Featured Designer for The Scrapbooking Queen!

Today I used The Queen's stamp set, Royal Pain. I have gotten a lot of use out of this stamp set. It's so great to have especially now that cold season is among us! I know a lot of people who would really appreciate a handmade card wishing them quick recovery through their sniffles. :o)

Enjoy!

Here's the whole stamp set!!

Well I did it...

I finally took the plunge into coloring stamps. This was a scary and exciting adventure for me. I must say, I'm not the most artistic person. A while ago I updated my Facebook page, asking if anyone could help me find the right products so I can start coloring. Without investing in Copic Markers, which must be magic or make you sandwiches or something because those things are EXPENSIVE! Anyhoo, the ever so talented and lovely Scrapbooking Queen suggested that I used colored pencils, blending stumps  and mineral spirits.

I bought these pencils:

Now I know what you are thinking, these have a pretty hefty price tag too. But I had a 50% off coupon for Michaels which thankfully made these very affordable!!

Here are some things I learned about coloring images:

  • I always knew how talented my fellow crafters are who can color images. But now I have a whole new respect for them! What they do is beautiful work. It's art!
  • It's a lot harder than I thought.
  • I am in serious need of a basic art class. Shading, color matching, whatever...
  • It's SO FUN!! And it's so calming too! It's like sitting in a hot tub while drinking a glass of wine and listening to Michael Bublé, for your hands.
Anyhoo, here's my first REAL attempt at coloring (I have once before, on this post, but I didn't have these pencils, blending stumps or mineral spirits then). I am aware that I need a LOT more work, and the shading kinda doesn't make sense, but I had so, so much fun doing it.

Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge and Design Team Call!

I recently came across Paper Smooches and theirs stamps and the only regret I have is that I haven't seen it sooner! Such cute stamps and such cute challenges! They are also hosting a DT call!! I'd love to be a part of their team. I'm loving being apart of the design teams I'm on now and I'd love to add some more DT love to my life!! So here is my challenge submission and what I'll be submitting to the DT call.

This was my first time coloring and using any kind of digi stamp. I'm not sure if I did it right, but I really love this little owl and I love how my card turned out!

The theme of the challenge is:

(so cute and right up my alley!!)

And here is my card! Like I said, this is my first time coloring stamps or even using a digi so I may be a bit rusty.

This is a free digi from Paper Smooches. I don't have any of their stamps (yet ^_^).

Featured Designer for Jinger Adams!

Hello everyone, I'm so super excited today because... Today is my first Featured Designer day for Jinger Adams's new and adorable craft line!!! I just received everything and I had such a fun time diving into it! For my first project I used her Bella Vida paper pack. When I first saw the oh so sweet dragon fly paper I knew exactly what I was going to do. A frame for my darling little niece, Imogen!

Here's the Bella Vida line:

I've had these wooden dragonfly silhouettes for a while and knew they'd work perfectly paired with the dragonfly paper. I used Hodge Podge in satin and podged the paper to the frame and dragonflies. I painted the edges with gold because I wanted it to match Jinger's beautiful gold lace trim around the picture. I wanted to find a cute picture of Imogen outside and when I put it all together I was so super happy with it!

My First Attempt at Watercolor

I give myself a 4 on this project. The idea is there but the execution is sub par. However, I'm proud of myself for trying!!

A long time ago one of my best friends gave me a watercolor set. She's an incredible artist. I've had that thing sitting around forever and I finally decided to give it a good go. So here's the card. Remember this is my first attempt. I couldn't keep the paper from warping, I'll have to use a better type of paper next time. I hope to someday get much better!

I watercolored a country/field setting and then stamped the sentiment and the hot air balloons are from a Silhouette cut file.

 I hope you like it!
